The Great Salvation

Hebrews 2:2-3

2 For if the word spoken by angels was stedfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompence of reward;
3 How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him;

In the words of the Spirit, the words spoken by angels was stedfast, that is firmly fixed in place, immovable, not subject to change. It will interest you to know that the Mosaic law was spoken by the ministration of angels according to De 33:2. which says  – And he said, The LORD came from Sinai, and rose up from Seir to them; he shined forth from mount Paran, and he came with ten thousands of saints: from his right hand went a fiery law for them. Also, Psalm 68:17 says “The chariots of God are twenty thousand, even thousands of angels: the Lord is among them, as in Sinai, in the holy place.” The respected apostle Stephen eventually confirmed in Acts 7:53 – Who have received the law by the disposition of angels, and have not kept it.

The giving of the law was supervised by angels and it was a pillar of justice that was monitored in heaven and has to be adhered to by the people it was given to. The law was to be a guiding principle for the greatest nation that God provided for supernaturally, protected supernaturally cared for supernaturally and does everything for. In that case, keeping the law provided by God was not to be taken for granted. There was no room for disobedience as the law was in itself perfect. Even though the people it was given to struggled, the law being holy was to be a precondition for obtaining the precious promises/inheritances divinely given and incomparable in value. That is the reason why the punishment for transgression and disobedience was stringent because it delivers the extra-ordinary and it is unequaled. To be candid, what are transgression and disobedience and why will they attract a reward?

Transgression is an overt sin of commission or of intentionally doing something one knows is wrong while disobedience is neglecting to do good. It is a sin of neglect, of omission-doing nothing when we should do something. Any house with no rule is a chaos and an accident waiting to happen.  A society with no guidance breeds beasts of destruction that are danger to themselves and everyone around.

The Israelite community was therefore subject to these guides of the word from God that can not be ignored because of its divine capability. Listen to what the word of God said to Moses in Leviticus 19 which begins this way – The Lord said to Moses, 2 “Speak to the entire assembly of Israel and say to them: ‘Be holy because I, the Lord your God, am holy. and diverse laws were given. The best principles that has helped shapen the communities we all adore today and created the laws that engineered the societies may now desire. But in Leveticus 20, the punishments for disobeying the holy writ are clearly scripted. But why is the Lord bringing this to His people?

Leveticus 20:22-24
22 “‘Keep all my decrees and laws and follow them, so that the land where I am bringing you to live may not vomit you out. 23 You must not live according to the customs of the nations I am going to drive out before you. Because they did all these things, I abhorred them. 24 But I said to you, “You will possess their land; I will give it to you as an inheritance, a land flowing with milk and honey.” I am the Lord your God, who has set you apart from the nations.

Now the question comes to you and me – How shall we escape if we neglect so great salvation. This salvation is the most valuable in history as it provided the complete solution for the root of mankind problem. It was a solution made possible through the blood of Jesus when He offered himself on the cross at Calvary. This sacrifice became the payment for our forgiveness, redemption, justification, healing, restoration and eternal insurance. That is why we cannot ignore His Salvation. He spoke it and His words cannot be broken. The same words that created the world and everything in it. The words that were confirmed by His disciples and they gave their life to proclaim it even in the face of tough persecutions and test of the highest order. The earth did not deserve them as they lived a life of value and passed the same to generations coming all done in love for their Master and ours.

Therefore, my great reader, do not harden your heart as you read these words. Your eternity depends on it and your life now is guaranteed by it. Don’t joke with your life. What shall it profit a man to gain the whole world and lose his own soul? There is no way of escape if we neglect so great salvation that promised all of God’s inheritance. The judgement is eternal and immediate consequences are more than what anyone can bargain for. May the Lord help you to accept the only way by which man can be saved.

Ask for Jesus to come into your heart, believe in His atoning work done on your behalf and confess Him as your Lord and Saviour and you will be saved and eternal life is your portion.

Welcome to a new life in Christ.
